Credit River Building Permit Process

Building permits are processed during Town Hall Business Hours on Tuesdays between 8:30am - 12 noon on a first come-first served basis. You will be asked to leave your materials after you have paid your fees and we will call you when your permit is ready to be picked up and taken to Scott County Government Center for their process.

The following building permits are reviewed by the Township:

  • New Home Construction
  • Additions
  • Accessory Structures
  • Deck Permits
  • In-ground and Above Ground Pools

The following building permits do not require Credit River Township Review:
  • Siding
  • Roofing
  • Interior remodels
  • Any improvement that does not change the footprint of the property

Please note that Credit River Township utilizes Scott County for Planning and Zoning. For information regarding building setbacks, allowable structure size, etc, please consult the property classification maps, descriptions and zoning information located on the Scott County Zoning web site

Additional Information:

Building Permit Applications and supplementals can be obtained at the Credit River Town Hall. This includes both the Credit River Township required Scott County Forms and the Credit River (only) forms.

The applicant must complete the Building Permit Application Packet and submit it for Township Review. One form (The Township NPDES Agreement) requires both the applicant and owner original signatures, and can be obtained by clicking on the link and printing it out to complete prior to the time of application.

The Township will review the footprint of the proposed structure and proposed elevations to ensure that it does not conflict with Township easements, among other things.

All applications for building permits must be accompanied by a survey of the property which shows the location of the proposed improvement /structure and setbacks, and erosion & sediment control.

Please supply a survey that is 11x 17 in size or smaller, that way we can make a copy for our records and return your original to you.
Please note: for some building permit review, other than a new home review, Credit River Township will accept a site plan, either downloaded and printed out from the Scott County GIS, or created by you. HOWEVER, in order for this to be accepted in place of a professionally created and marked survey, the following information MUST be drawn in: Original structure, proposed improvement, erosion and sediment control method and location, and setbacks. This document, the same as any other that is required, will not be accepted if not complete to these instructions-no exceptions.

Please Note: Only Certified Surveys are accepted for New Home Construction.

All applications for building permits must be accompanied by a set of plans for the proposed structure.

All applications that include land disturbing activities must be accompanied by an Erosion and Sediment Control Plan.

Following Township review, the applicant must submit the Building Permit Application to the Scott County Government Center in Shakopee for review and issuance of the permit. Please note, Scott County Planning and Zoning is a separate entity from Credit River Township and has its own procedures and fees for building permits. Credit River Township does not quote or estimate Scott County fees.

The Fees and Escrows that Credit River Township is responsible for collecting are due at the time of submission of the Building Permit Packet.

One check may be written to cover both fees and escrows. Credit River Township accepts checks only - no cash or credit cards. Please bring an additional check with you in case an access pre-inspection and fee are determined to be necessary (the fee for an access pre inspection is $50.00, if determined by the Township Engineer to be necessary).
